Correctional Institution for Women Visit

A visit to the makers of our solar lights.

Our team had the privilege of visiting the inmates at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Manila, who played a crucial role in assembling the solar lights for Litre of Light - the very lights we use for Project Luminaire. During our visit, we not only assisted them in building circuits for the solar lights but also had the opportunity to interact with them, learning about their life journeys and the impact that this opportunity from Litre of Light has had on them.

Our visit was a truly eye-opening and humbling experience. By working alongside the CIW ladies in assembling the lights, engaging in heartfelt conversations, and providing essential gifts, we aimed to not only contribute to their rehabilitation process but also foster a sense of hope, empowerment, and dignity.

Assisting in Building Circuits for Solar Lights:

One of the highlights of our visit was working alongside the talented and resourceful ladies at CIW to assemble the simple circuits for the solar lights. Through hands-on assistance and collaboration, we witnessed their expertise and dedication in creating these sustainable lighting solutions. By actively participating in the assembly process, we deepened our understanding of the technical aspects of the solar lights and appreciated the craftsmanship of the women involved.

Interacting with CIW Inmates:

Beyond the technical aspects, our visit was an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the CIW ladies, getting to know them on a personal level. We listened attentively as they shared advice and their life journeys, highlighting the challenges they have faced. By hearing their stories, we gained valuable insights into their experiences which fostered empathy and understanding among our volunteers.

Gifting of Necessities:

As a gesture of appreciation and support, we had the privilege of gifting the CIW inmates with essential items such as notebooks and stationery. These items not only served as practical necessities but also symbolized our belief in their ability to pursue personal growth and education. It was a small gesture to uplift their spirits and reinforce the message that they are not alone in their journey toward rehabilitation and empowerment.
