Project Luminaire 13 was an eye-opening, unforgettable experience. My main role as a logistics team member was to source for cooking, lighting teaching materials and handle packing logistics. From managing inventory and kitchen prep in Singapore to seeing the direct impact of our efforts on the ground in Zambales, this journey truly showed me how transformative Project Luminaire is for both the volunteers and the community we serve.

Beyond the spreadsheets and the packing lists, the real meaningful work was in the kitchen and the classroom. Cooking warm meals watching the children excitedly queue up for food was a once in a lifetime experience. Working hands-on with them during lessons, trying to overcome the language barriers through actions and videos, made seeing their infectious smiles when they got an answer right immensely rewarding.

The best moments of the trip were the simplest ones: hearing the kids run up to us in the mornings calling out "Ate!" and "Kuya!", pulling us by the hand to join them in running around, or picking flowers together. Their infectious energy kept our spirits high throughout long hot days and their joy over simple things like playing tag and piggyback rides made the project even more meaningful. This project allowed me to contribute to the Zambales community, but it also gave me unforgettable memories, life-long friendships and valuable lessons. Walking the kids out on our final day there was just as difficult for us as it was for them, and it made me realise that I received just as much warmth and affection as I gave. It taught me to appreciate the little things in life and to find joy in small, meaningful moments.
