Joining Project Luminaire has truly been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life. Knowing that the solar lights we built will continue to serve the villagers in Zambales even after we have left, and that the project reflected the community’s voices and priorities, made the experience especially meaningful. Teaching and cooking for the children at Alao has also been especially impactful, leading to the most unforgettable moments of the trip. Despite the language barrier, the children weren’t afraid to approach and play with us, and something that I will never forget is their gifts of tiny flower bracelets and bouquets that they handcrafted for us every day just to see us smile. This trip was a great learning experience about the systemic challenges that communities in Zamabales face and really reminded us of the importance of listening to local perspectives, working alongside communities, and pursuing sustainable solutions that respond to their priorities.

Another thing I am immensely grateful for is the PL community that has been fostered this trip. Everyone was very supportive and cheerful, and I will forever remember enjoying the beautiful sunsets and talks with the amazing friends I have made during the trip after the long service days.
