Project Luminaire 13 is something that I will hold very close to my heart for a very long time. The best decision that I made was to spend my summer lighting impoverished communities, cooking and teaching children who will bond with you in a matter of days. Learning bits and pieces of their language, culture, and experiencing it all with like-minded people who will soon become lifelong friends. All of it from the rough 5 hours of sleep and flying beetles to the precious moments that we capture on camera- i would not have traded this experience for anything else.

There were many tough moments, but none are as memorable as the ones worth celebrating. Being able to connect with children who see you as an older sister and call you ‘Ate’, one or two of them insisting to stay by your side because there is a special bond. The flowers that I received, the handmade card from Hazel- moments like these touched my heart.

I am very grateful for our project leaders and directors Rae, William, Roger, Chue and Shihui for making this project as rewarding and successful as possible, and for always looking out for us and putting in their 110%. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.
