Project Luminaire provided me with new perspectives on the areas of serving the community and delivering impacts regardless of how small the contributions may be. Being a logistics team member, the responsibilities lie in myself and the team to prepare materials and conduct  learning activities at Alao Elementary. Although initially being afraid of connecting with the children due to our difference in backgrounds, the enthusiasm and eagerness from them as they go through each of our meticulously planned lessons was rewarding. My confidence grew after their active participation, asking relevant questions as we spent our time together throughout this experience.

One of the highlights of our project was our collaboration with Liter of Light, where we worked with communities to build and provide lighting through different applications such as pipe lights, street lights and house lights. It was fulfilling to know and see first hand the practical benefits to families who needed better access to lighting. This extends beyond direct interaction, improving their daily lives through reusable accessible lighting. My project mates also gave me a sense of appreciation for teamwork, communication and careful planning throughout the teaching sessions and construction activities.

Looking back, this project has shown a new perspective of the different forms of service showing a lasting impact. With all the tasks, objectives, impact, efforts and activities, these have all been part of a greater purpose. This opens more light of the opportunities and resources that we have in Singapore and how grateful I am to have access to these. Furthermore, this has influenced me to continue using my skills and assets to help others, remembering these lessons of empathy, teamwork and service from this project as more opportunities to impact the community may arise.
