Project Luminaire 13 was more than just an opportunity to volunteer, it was an experience that reshaped the way I view gratitude, happiness, and the impact of community service. As part of the Programmes team, I had the privilege of planning lesson plans and activities for the students of Alao Elementary School in Zambales before teaching and interacting with them personally. While I initially thought I was there to educate the children, I soon realised they were the ones teaching me some of life's most valuable lessons.

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was seeing how easily the children found happiness in the simplest things. Whether it was playing with a ball, singing and dancing together, or laughing during our lessons, their joy was genuine and contagious. It made me realise how often I take the little things in Singapore for granted. Their appreciation for life's simple moments reminded me that happiness is not determined by what we own, but by how we choose to appreciate what we have.

Beyond the classroom, the relationships we built left the deepest impression on me. The children and teachers welcomed us with warmth and kindness, making every day unforgettable. Another meaningful experience was helping to install lights for families in the community. Something as ordinary as having electricity at home is a privilege I had never truly appreciated, yet it meant so much to them. Being part of a team that could bring such a simple but meaningful change to their lives was incredibly humbling and rewarding.

Project Luminaire 13 taught me to be more appreciative of the life I have, to never take opportunities for granted, and to find joy in the simplest moments. More importantly, it showed me that making a difference is not always about doing something extraordinary. Sometimes, simply showing up, giving your time wholeheartedly, and serving others is enough to leave a lasting impact, not only on the community, but also on yourself.
