Isabelle Lim

Programme Executive

My journey with PL11 began with a desire to bring joy and forge meaningful connections within the community, particularly with the students. Having previously tutored Primary 3 English at a Family Service Centre, I was especially eager to contribute to the English programs team and support the children's learning.

The experience surpassed my expectations, offering me far more than I could ever give. Interacting with the children at Alan Elementary School was undoubtedly the highlight. Their infectious enthusiasm for learning and zest for life were truly inspiring. Each morning, the pre-lesson assembly where the children would passionately sing and dance to the national anthem and hymns energised me despite the exhaustion from lesson preparations and solar light installations.

It greatly warmed my heart to see that our efforts had made tangible differences. The solar light installations addressed the community's struggle with darkness, which I personally experienced during nighttime activities. Witnessing the students' diligent note-taking and active participation in class affirmed that our carefully planned lessons were both engaging and insightful. On our final day, the children's heartfelt gestures—handwritten notes and hand-picked flowers—were also touching testaments to our positive influence and deep connections formed.

This experience has profoundly shaped me, fostering a deeper sense of contentment, gratitude, and proactivity in helping others. Living within the community opened my eyes to everyday conveniences I had taken for granted—from automatic toilet flushes to clean floors. Returning home, I felt not only privileged but also inspired to continue making a difference, carrying forward the lessons I've learnt during this transformative journey.
