Going to Zambales with PL10 during my Year 1 Summer was really a memorable and fulfilling experience! Having the opportunity to teach the kids at Sitio Alao Elementary School and being able to support the local community with solar lights was a privilege for me. I think seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and the appreciation of the villagers in the community made the challenge all the more worthwhile too! The eagerness of the students to learn English and their excitement at simple things like spaghetti also reminded me of to be more grateful for the common joys I take for granted, such as necessities like food, and even the basic ability to learn. I’m thankful to have spent my first summer travelling beyond the borders of Singapore to do something meaningful with a sustainable impact!
